The First and Only . . .

North American Brown-Nosed Pleasure Hound

Breed Origins

A worthy addition to the terrier group, the North American Brown-Nosed Pleasure Hound is known for her impeccable sense of obsequiousness. Not a good scent hound and lacking the tenacity of the true terriers, the NABNPH honors her roots as an offshoot of the Staffordshire terriers (themselves not really terriers) or "pit bulls" by proudly maintaining the "without malice" reputation of the classic "fighting without malice, pit bull terrier". Carrying on the quality of nervous clinglyness so often associated with her part-dalmation forefather, the NABNPH clearly exhibits the "part" of the prestigious "part-dalmation." And this honor will forever be marked in her name as "hound."

Breed Characteristics

The North American Brown-Nosed Pleasure Hound is known to weigh between 43 and 46 pounds. Tall and lean, she is best at 20 inches at the shoulder. Ideally, her face is square like a pit bull . . . but not too square, as in the pit bull. Most notable is her strikingly large "brown" nose which should be solid black in color.

Lily's Heritage

The only known specimen of the North American Brown-Nosed Pleasure Hound is, "Lily" or "Diamond Lil." Originally, Lily was named by a retired Oregon logger that recollected a chain of Western U.S. casinos named "Diamond Lil's." Because of Lily's distinct "diamond" shaped marking between her shoulder blades, she was thus dubbed "Diamond Lil." A bitch incorrectly named after a corporate caricature of a harlot and card-shark, so far, Lily has yet to prove lucky. This may be because the chain of Nevada casinos was actually named "Lady Lil's." "Lady," however, was one of Lily's litter mates and not Lily herself.

Luckily, "Diamond Lil" is also an inn in Montana that has very nice hot tubs, a Marvel comic book character, a B-24 bomber, somebody else's dog, a user of BBC.com, a Broadway character made most famous by Mae West, and several other things.

Despite these complicating discoveries, Lil retained her name in honor of her person's great grand mother and because Lily is, "delicate . . . like the flower."
